As we all very well know: there’s no simple equation for future fertility. That said, there are things you can do now that might pay off later on.
Ideal Things
For men and women both:
- Attempt to eat a balanced diet.
- Regular exercise.
- Attempt to maintain a healthy weight.
- Get tested for STDs.
- Have a chat with your family physician about any medication you’re taking, medical conditions that could affect your fertility, and your family history.
For Men:
- Make sure to take a multivitamin (should contain zinc, selenium, vitamin C).
- Consult your physician if you’ve had treatments that could impact your fertility, or if you experience difficulty maintaining an erection or ejaculating during intercourse.
- Ensure that any medications or supplements you’re taking don’t contain testosterone.
Unacceptable Things
For men and women both:
- Smoking, vaping, or any products with nicotine.
- Excessive alcohol consumption.
- Recreational drugs.
For Women:
- Avoid excessive stress about your fertility health. Although conclusive studies on the topic exist, the exact mechanisms aren’t fully understood. Regardless, it’s important to prioritize mental health.
For Men:
- Avoid tight underwear and trousers.
- Avoid sitting with a warm laptop on your lap.
- Avoid prolonged sitting.
- Avoid hot showers, hot baths, saunas, and jacuzzis.
